English service guide and inquiry
Move from a brand idea to an agreed manufacturing specification.
Private label, OEM and ODM are used inconsistently by suppliers. Define the actual work: an existing product with your packaging, a modified design or a product developed to your specification. ChinaConnect247 coordinates the brief, candidate comparison, sample decisions and approved specialist checks.
For brand owners moving beyond a catalogue purchase, including Amazon FBA product sourcing. A logo change does not establish design rights, product compliance or a profitable listing.

Choose the manufacturing work, not just the label
Ask each candidate to describe what exists, what changes, who controls the design and who approves it. These are illustrative scope distinctions, not legal definitions.
- Project route
- Existing product, own packaging
- Evidence to agree
- Exact model/materials, packaging artwork, brand permission, MOQ and document scope.
- Decision before commitment
- Approve a representative branded sample and destination-specific checks.
- Project route
- Modified product or supplier design
- Evidence to agree
- Change list, drawings, component substitutions, development fee and rights to use the design.
- Decision before commitment
- Confirm ownership/licences, sample revisions and who pays for failed development.
- Project route
- Buyer specification and tooling
- Evidence to agree
- Controlled drawings, tolerances, tooling inventory, maintenance/access, ownership and handover terms.
- Decision before commitment
- Use appropriate legal advice for IP/contracts and approve tooling milestones separately.
Scope and practical next steps
01Build one specification that suppliers can quote
Record the function, materials, dimensions, tolerances, finish, performance, variants and packaging. Use a version number and distinguish mandatory requirements from optional improvements. Compare quotations against this common baseline.
- Separate development/tooling, samples, unit price, packaging, testing and freight; record quote currency and validity.
- Define sample stages and how an approved reference will represent the production run.
- Record production site, subcontracting, MOQ tiers, capacity claims and lead-time dependencies.
02Resolve IP, tooling and changes before manufacture
WIPO recommends defining background IP, newly developed IP, supplier licence limits, confidentiality and the return of materials at termination. Paying a development invoice alone does not answer every ownership or use-right question. Obtain advice appropriate to the contracts and jurisdictions.
- Record rights to trademarks, artwork, drawings, software and existing supplier designs.
- Identify each mould/tool, storage site, permitted use, maintenance, access and transfer terms.
- Require approval for component, material, site and packaging changes; consider whether retesting is needed.
03Connect production checks to the sales channel
Own-brand sellers may take on additional manufacturer responsibilities under destination rules. A supplier certificate or a good-looking sample is not clearance for your exact branded product. Ask qualified specialists which evidence and labels apply before production.
- For Amazon FBA, check the intended marketplace/category, listing permissions, product identifiers and current prep/label/carton requirements.
- Confirm importer, inspection and testing responsibilities independently of fulfilment acceptance.
- Approve the production specification, inspection criteria and remedy process before a deposit or tooling release.
What you receive
- A versioned product and branding brief with an explicit customization route.
- Comparable candidate/RFQ and sample-stage plan within the agreed scope.
- An IP/tooling/change-control question register for supplier and professional review.
- A production evidence and approval plan; actual quotations only when approved outreach receives them.
What to prepare for your brief
- Reference product, drawings and intended changes; do not share material you lack permission to use.
- Brand ownership/permissions, destination, sales channel and exact proposed models.
- Sample and order quantities, budget/currency, packaging and target dates.
- Existing supplier documents, tooling terms and unresolved design or testing questions.
Quotation method and indicative fees
OEM work is quoted by development depth, candidates, sample rounds, tooling involvement and coordination stages. The RFQ/sample-plan, testing coordination and full-programme ranges are different possible scopes, not an automatic combined charge. Tooling, product purchases, laboratory/provider fees and legal advice require explicit itemization.
- RFQ, specification, and sample plan
- US$300-US$1,500
- Testing and compliance coordination
- US$500-US$5,000
- End-to-end sourcing and launch programme
- US$5,000-US$50,000
Indicative USD ranges from our Services & Pricing page. Your written quotation controls the fee, deliverables, payment arrangements and separate charges.
Timing and readiness
Development may need several sample rounds before production. Tooling changes, test findings and artwork revisions can reset milestones. We quote a staged schedule after reviewing the design and supplier readiness; no launch date is guaranteed.

- We coordinate agreed work; we do not manufacture, register your IP or provide legal opinions.
- An existing supplier test report may not cover a changed model, material, brand, site or destination.
- No exclusive design, listing approval, supplier performance, sales or profit is promised.
Questions about oem & private-label sourcing
Does private label mean I own the design?
No. Brand permission, design rights, tooling ownership and supplier licences are separate questions. Record the rights you need and have the agreement reviewed where appropriate.
Can you source for Amazon FBA?
We can scope supplier, sample, packaging and shipping preparation for a named marketplace. Amazon/category requirements and importer responsibilities still need checking; FBA acceptance and sales are not guaranteed.
Do you approve the sample for me?
We organize the agreed evidence and specialist input. You approve the sample and specification against documented criteria before the next commitment.
Can I start with an existing supplier?
Yes. Share the current specification, sample status and open issues. The proposal can cover a gap review rather than restarting discovery.
