How much does a China sourcing agent cost? Scopes, fees and exclusions
Use ChinaConnect247’s actual indicative fee ranges to plan supplier research, RFQs, visits, inspections and multi-stage sourcing. Compare inclusions and outside costs.

The practical answer
There is no single fee for every sourcing project. A company-evidence review, factory visit and end-to-end programme buy different work. Use the actual indicative ranges below to choose a starting scope, then obtain an itemized written quotation. Separate coordination fees from goods, samples, tests, travel, freight and other provider charges.
In this guide
First define the decision and the work
If you need to decide whether to investigate one company, a managed supplier-evidence review may be enough. Preparing a purchase can require entity/invoice/beneficiary checks, a comparable RFQ and a sample plan. Several factories, complex products, specialist tests or continuing production follow-up expand the scope.
The table below is ChinaConnect247’s existing indicative USD pricing, not a market-wide benchmark, a new quotation or a promise that every case fits the range. A basic visit is not a full capability audit. Manufacturer discovery is individually scoped; the RFQ range is not a universal shortlist price.

Compare charging methods without guessing a percentage
A fixed fee should name deliverables and revision limits. A commission should disclose the rate, calculation base, minimums, when it is earned and any supplier-paid compensation. A retainer should define the period, availability, reporting and work outside the allowance. A hybrid should show each element so the same task is not charged twice.
We do not present an unsupported “normal industry commission”. Ask who is paid by whom, whether supplier incentives exist, which party contracts with independent providers and whether any outside cost includes a coordination margin. Written transparency matters more than a fee label.

Keep unknown costs visible in the budget
Create separate budget lines for goods/deposit, samples and courier, tooling, testing, visits and travel, inspection/reinspection, freight, insurance, duties/taxes and local receiving/storage. Include them only when the quotation expressly covers them. “Not quoted” is different from zero.
Confirm the shipping basis and destination before comparing freight-related costs. Incoterms allocate specified tasks, costs and risk; they do not provide a freight price or set ownership and payment terms. Product/category and destination can change the testing and documentation work needed.
Request a quotation that can be checked later
Provide the product, destination, quantity, supplier status, available specification and next decision. Ask for the number of entities/sites/SKUs, evidence depth, deliverables, provider roles, milestones, timing assumptions, revision limits and exclusions.
Agree how new entities, failed readiness, extra site days, additional tests, reinspection and scope changes will be quoted. A 1–2 working day initial reply is not the project completion time. A programme can take months as samples, tooling, production and shipping dependencies are resolved.
- Specify milestone approvals and which commitments need your authorization.
- Confirm fee currency, invoicing, applicable taxes/charges and payment schedule in the quotation.
- Ask what is payable if the project pauses or stops, including already committed provider costs.

Compare useful deliverables, not just the first number
Two offers labeled “inspection” can differ in site days, sampling, test equipment, travel, evidence quality and corrective follow-up. A full programme fee and a single visit fee should not be compared as if they deliver the same work.
The lower fee is not necessarily the worse proposal, and a high fee is not evidence of better suppliers. Reconcile the scope, responsibilities and outside costs first; then assess whether the next decision justifies the spending. Research and coordination do not guarantee supplier performance, clearance or profit.

Worked quotation comparison: three questions before adding fees
Illustrative scope comparison, not customer quotations or an advertised bundle. Use the actual indicative pricing table to request your own written proposal.
- Proposal wording
- “Sourcing support” for a fixed fee
- Missing information
- Supplier count, specification and deliverables.
- Comparison question
- Does it include identity research, outreach, quotations, samples or only introductions?
- Proposal wording
- “Inspection included”
- Missing information
- Provider, site days, travel, sampling and report.
- Comparison question
- Who performs it, against which checklist, and who pays if the goods are not ready?
- Proposal wording
- “End-to-end service”
- Missing information
- Purchases, tests, freight, duties and duration.
- Comparison question
- Which costs and milestones are included, and which require separate approval/payment?
Do not add every price range as a compulsory package or compare a coordination fee with the total project spend. Request the relevant stages and label each unpriced item as unresolved.
Practical checklist
Tick items while reading or print this page for your working notes. These ticks stay only on the current page and are not saved to My Fair. A completed checklist records your review, not a supplier approval.
